We’re really excited because 3 of us at LANEO HQ are going to take part in this year’s “Course des Templiers” (Trail 72 km and +3100 m), France’s oldest and most famous off road race that starts and finishes in the quaint town of NANT in the south of France.
The race is not only known because it’s incredibly tough and extraordinarily beautiful but also because of the race course management that perfectly takes into account the environment; they change most of the course every year in order to preserve flora & fauna !
We’ll keep you up to date on our training and of course the results.
Nike’s 10K “Human Race” is drawing closer; race day is 31.08.2008 and it looks like there’s going to be millions of us out there that day!!
Besides being a great way to get people outdoors, together and having fun, this is a perfect example of how “some” companies are harnessing the web by “creating content” and not just looking for a quick dollar, euro or whatever. Event-Based Advertising is “better” than popups (when is it all going to stop or at least become intelligent) because it gives people something “before” asking for their patronage.
Most of the Laneo team is going out to participate on August 31st, maybe we’ll see you there?!
A friend of Laneo just sent us this great video of the “El Camino del Rey” trail.
Originally built in 1901, this walkway now serves as an approach to “Makinodromo”, the famous climbing sector of El Chorro in Alora southern Spain, near Malaga. “Makinodromo” is situated on the eastern flank of this fantastic gorge, the large overhanging limestone crag reaches a height of 80/100m and is most famous for “Lourdes”, a legendary 30m 8a ideally suited for those in search of their first ever 8a on-sight.
The photo on Wikipedia gives you an idea of what this “really is”!!
Titled as the “World’s Most Challenging Human Endurance Competition”, PRIMAL QUEST is back for it’s 5th Edition in Montana (USA) this year, from June 21st – July 2nd.
Primal Quest was founded in 2001 with the goal of bringing a world-class, multi-sport expedition race to North America and it includes a mind boggling array of disciplines like navigation, climbing, paddling, biking, running, whitewater swimming and canyoneering over an incredible 5-10 day event.
One unique aspect is that this is an environmentally friendly, ecologically aware wilderness Expedition Adventure Race. Primal Quest is in full accordance with the United States Adventure Racing Association publication entitled “Adventure Racing Ecological Standards” and incorporates these standards in all phases of the planning, race management and post race activities. Teams only travel where permitted; do not build campfires; and strictly adhere to pack it in, pack it out rules. They also implement a recycle program for all their transition areas in order to minimize trash and landfill impact.
Origins of adventure racing date back to the 1980’s in New Zealand and became popular in the early 1990’s (I even met racers and organizers of the initial RAID GAULOISES races when I did Ironman NZ back in 1991) after which the concept became popular through the Raid Gauloises, Eco-Challenge and the BEAST of the East.
This is the type of outdoor event that gets us all excited at Laneo; really challenging, beautiful untouched landscapes, core teamwork skills and a “leave no trace” philosophy !
