Quiksilver sells Rossignol - 29 Aug 2008

rossignol2.jpgChartreuse & Mont Blanc has just announced that it’s to buy the winter sports gear maker ROSSIGNOL for 100 m €, which after our research showed was less than half what QUIKSILVER had paid for it in 2005.

The Business Unit should include the Rossignol, Dynastar, Look and Lange brands of winter sports equipment and apparel.

Chartreuse & Mont Blanc, named for two mountain ranges, is headed by Bruno Cercley, a former chief executive of Rossignol and is owned by Macquarie Group of Australia and Jarden Corp.

Browsing around the web we found numerous comments on this transaction but in our opinion, this is great news for Rossignol; they can finally get back to what they know how to do best.

The Active Network Raises 80M$ - 28 Aug 2008

header_activenetwork_logo.jpgOur friends at “The Active Network” (a network of sites focused on getting people involved in sports) has just raised an additional $80 million led by ESPN, the leading Sports TV Network.

The Active Network was founded in 1998 as a registration site for endurance races and today has over 15 million registered users worldwide!

We found out that the company has made over 10 acquisitions in 2007 alone and is reaching new markets such as camping and education.

Our mantra at Laneo is; “the more people outdoors, the more we’re going to get support to save our playground!”, that’s why we support The Active Network!

Laneo Awards: A Step in the Right Direction - 06 Aug 2008

laneo-awards.jpgLaneo has just launched LANEO AWARDS – a program designed to reward sports industry manufacturers for developing innovative products that respect our planet.

Laneo selects 12 products during each of the European tradeshows:

  • Eurobike

A Laneo committee then considers whether each product:

    1. Incorporates natural, organic, bio, sustainable or recycled materials.
    2. Enhances the category by adding value or innovation, rather than simply creating a marketing statement about the environment.
    3. Supports a long usage cycle – i.e. the product should be top quality and not follow trends that encourage consumption and waste.

Laneo does not officially endorse these products, and absolutely no money, publicity or promotional work is exchanged. The awards were created to inform outdoor enthusiasts about products and manufacturers that are taking positive steps to protect our planet. The winners are welcome to use the recognition at their discretion for one year.
