What does Laneo mean? - 14 Jun 2007
The subject of choosing the name was an incredible adventure for me and the others close to the project. I said to my wife one day, “I cannot give a name to our son until I see him, physically I mean”, it’s like, how could you give a name like “Bob” to guy who look’s like “Jean-Pierre” (that’s not my son’s name though). I know a lot of “Bob’s” and “Jean-Pierre’s;, and I love them all, but I really don’t think either of them would like to change their name and I’m also sure, that it’s been a while since they last asked themselves; “who gave me that name and why”?
This brings me to the point of attributing a name to something that only exists in your mind. My wife knew, astonishingly quickly, the couple of names she wanted for our son (how she knew it was a boy before science confirmed that, I still don’t understand…). Why was that? Because she “saw it” and there’s no real way to explain how and it would probably take all the fun away too. When I approached the magical people at our Marketing, Design, Web & You name it Firm that has guided us from day one to help us find a name, they very confidently responded “sure thing”. You know, it’s a bit like your parents, they’ve been through it all – nothing fazes them anymore. While I was sweating profusely, drinking far too much coffee, asking my friends way too many questions and basically not sleeping – our fantastic team was patiently guiding me through the dense jungle of objective and subjective concepts of branding. They were right actually, one day I just woke up and I knew it was Laneo.
Now, they’ll tell you better than I can where it comes from and they’ll use all the right word’s, but I’ll say it this way: it comes from a Hawaiian word called “Alaneo” which means the beauty of nature in its most peaceful moments. Isn’t that what we all feel when we’re out there, in harmony with ourselves and the surroundings, when there’s no trace left of effort and no sounds except your heartbeat thumping against your chest like marching band drum and you suddenly realize that this is what it’s all about – laHnèo…, say it, you’ll see what I mean.
